五人ライダー対キングダーク

Directed by Itaru Orita

Synopsis

During a motocross practice, Keisuke Jin is ambushed by two Myth Cyborgs created by a secret organization that's attempting to control Japan, G.O.D. (Government of Darkness). He transforms into Kamen Rider X, but little does he know that his battle is recorded and analyzed by King Dark, G.O.D.'s commander, to create a super cyborg. Other G.O.D. cyborgs are attacking all over Tokyo and in the middle of the crisis, the original four Riders return to Japan from different countries around the world. The five Riders unite to lead a counter attack against G.O.D.

They didn’t even fight King Dark wtf!

The first media I watched in 2022! It was a good choice.

So today is February 12, which means one thing...
    Today is my Birthday!
So I decided to spend my birthday watching Rider movies concurrent with the show I'm watching, so Kamen Rider X's three* movies, and while the first movie is just a theatrical version of Episode 3, this one is wholly original, the last fully original Rider movie until 1980's Eight Riders Vs. GingaOh.
Like all the other original movies for this era of Rider, it's essentially just a slightly extended episode of the TV show. While X has so far been just kind of okay, this one was a lot of fun for what it is. Seeing the past four Riders transform together made me happy, I actually…

Showa magic! I discovered there were a few Showa era movies I hadn't seen, and well this has just about everything I love in a Showa era kamen rider movie. Highlights:
-throwing the dummy, it’s my favorite thing. We get at least two dummies thrown off of heights during the big brawls
-when the kamen riders are defeating the hordes of greek god themed enemies, they start throwing their bodies on top of each other in this big pile like these guys are forgotten laundry. then they thrown Bat Franken on there at the end and boom huge real explosion.
-speaking of Bat Franken, awesome kaijin, the main villain here. He's a bat, and theyve probably had a dozen bat…

None of this made any sense but if you rate anything with a Bat-Franken less than 4 stars you’re an absolute maniac.

  • Review by Christopher Brown ★★★

I can appreciate the first Kamen Rider series but it's when the really big piles of coke reached the writers' room with X and Amazon that the original shows committed to being a parade of batshit insanity, and thus achieved true greatness.

I can't help but notice that the Five Riders never fight King Dark, though.

  • Review by Robert Dayton ★★★½

All five Kamen Riders together even though Kamen Rider 1 and Kamen Rider 2 had died together in a nuclear explosion and Kamen Rider 4 had sacrificed his life to save Japan. Do they explain how they came back to life? Of course not! And a bunch of past monsters are resurrected! Do they exxplain how? Of course not! Too bad this came out before the villain Starfish Hitler came on the Kamen Rider scene. But there's a brand new monster Bat Franken (a Frankenstein monster headed monster with bat wings)! Oh, and spoiler: they don't fight King Dark.

  • Review by Brant

It’s still such a novel treat for me to see any of this stuff shot on film in decent quality. There is no story but you get to see The Boys get together and carry on like they do.
Thank god the Kamen Rider Movie tradition of all the villains doing a roll-call is alive and well for this one.

    (Riderman forever)

  • Review by VortexWill ★★★½

I love how King Dark didn't get up once, it's like he was fed up with the Kamen Rider's shit

  • Review by ComedyGrizzly ★★

    Yea. 4/10.

  • Review by spookyTHING ★★★★

The all you can eat buffet of rider films. The story sucks, they don't fight King Dark, and it's mostly just a bunch of fanservice plus an ad at the end to buy a magazine. But I do love myself some Kamen Rider so yeah I ate that shit up and I would gladly take more trashy cinema if it means I get to see my costumed freaks jumping around. Rider Kickstart my heart. ❤️

Showa Toku. Awesome! Love this film. Such a good watch for any Toku/ Rider fan.
