  Task 15. A comedy from a non-English speaking country.

  Non-stop laughs from Danny Boon and a troupe of "Northern" French actors who play with the idea of people looking down on them for their accents.

  Vegan alert:
  There are organic fruits and vegetables which are portrayed as rotting. They threw them away without even composting.

  Danny Boon does it again. All fabulous actors..great stuff. This is (a very difficult category) light hearted comedy... the kind that is hard to find... the kind my wife likes. Light comedy without becoming a B-romcom. Even though a bit predictable it is an story that keeps interest. With a nice dysfunctional family of whom one (Danny) has made it. The story matters only a little as it is as much a character scetch as a story. All the actors are great. And the (IMDB hardly know) Laurence Arné made a big impression on me: as much as Tricia Helfer in Battlestar Galactica. This is one woman i just keep staring at. On top of it: also her acting is great as wife of the protagonist Danny, who delivers reliably as usual.

  Dany Boon originates from the area of Northern France with a strange dialect (which has a bit of English thrown in).

  This was fully exploited his smash hit Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis / Welcome to the sticks. The amount of Ch’ti spoken in that film was modest making it easier to subtitle presumably.

  This one on the other hand has buckets of it and treats Ch’ti like a foreign language incomprehensible to Parisians.

  Boon has cast several of his stock company of Northern French actors/mates including his other half, the delightful Laurence Arné and rather against expectations, he’s made a genuinely funny film that amusingly pokes fun at pretentious Parisian fashion designers.

  One noticeably annoying aspect however is the omnipresent incidental music there constantly to remind you that this is a comedy.

  How this would work internationally is debatable as subtitling must have been a huge challenge and dubbed would be awful.

  ☹️ c’est un peu le pb des films de dany boon en fait, tu sens qu’il y a des choses bien mais la trame narrative elle est giga bancale du coup c’est chaud à apprecier sans s’ennuyer 😕

  One of the better Danny Boon films I’ve seen. I had assumed that it was a sequel to his earlier film Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis, but was pleasantly surprised to find that this is a separate, unconnected story, albeit one that plays with the same themes of regional identity. I like how much they made the dialect part of the story—Laurence Arné‘s efforts to learn it were adorable. There are also a few good physical comedy bits.
